• YON-GAE HYUNG

    Yon-Gae is named after General Yon Gae Somoon, a famous general during the Koguryo dynasty. The 49 movements refer to the last two figures of 649 AD, the year he forced the Tang dynasty to leave Korea after destroying nearly 300,000 of their troops at Ansi fortress.

    Begin in parallel ready stance with fingers of right hand
    on front of left vertical fist at left side of belt.

  • 1. Slide to C to left sparring stance with circular left reverse knife-hand low guarding block;
    2. Slip the left foot forward to left walking stance to D in
    slow motion as slowly extend right long fist eye height; I c
    3. Withdraw the left foot and slide toward C to right sparring stance with right forearm guarding block to D;
    4. Jump to D (tucking both feet and knees up) with right knife-hand side strike, land in right sparring stance with the right knife-hand extended toward D;
    5. Shift backwards toward C maintaining right sparring stance facing D with middle outer forearm X-fist checking block;
    6. Slip the right foot to right walking stance to D with high outward right knife-hand cross cut slash;
    7. Pull the right foot back toward the left foot to right cat stance facing D with right straight elbow downward thrust;
    8. Move the left foot to Din a long stride jumping motion to left X-stance with a high left back-fist side strike to D;
    9. Move the right foot back toward C as cross right hand over left wrist (back to back) to end in left walking stance to D with right knife-hand low block;
    10. Move the right foot forward to parallel stance to D with left middle hooking block; continue ...

    12. Slide to C to right sparring stance with circular right reverse knife-hand low guarding block;
    13. Slip the right foot forward to right walking stance to D in slow motion as slowly extend left long fist eye height;

    26. Cross the left foot over the right foot toward A to X-stance with right upward reverse punch pulling the left fist in front of the right shoulder;
    27. Pivot right on the left foot and high right reverse hooking kick to B;
    28. Lower the right foot toward B, pivot right on right foot and left side kick to B;
    29. Lower the left foot toward B in a jumping motion to left foot forward X-stance with left back-fist downward strike to B;
    30. Move left foot to B to sitting stance facing D with reverse knife-hand W block;
    31. Cross the right foot over the left foot toward B to X-stance thrusting to the sides horizontally with both elbows (fists palm downward);
    32. Move the left foot toward B to sitting stance facing D with twin straight (vertical forward) forearm checking block;
    33. Cross the right foot over the left foot to X-stance with left upward reverse punch pulling the right fist in front of the left shoulder;
    34. Pivot left on the right foot and high left reverse hooking kick to A;
    35. Lower the left foot toward A, pivot left on left foot and right side kick to A;
    36. Lower the right foot to A in a stride jumping motion to right foot forward Xstance with right back-fist downward strike to A;
    37. Move the left foot back toward C to right sparring stance to D with right forearm guarding block;
    38. Move the left foot counter-clockwise as pivot left on the right foot to right cat stance to C with a right waist block (reverse hammerfist upwards);
    39. Move the right foot to C slightly as pivot left on the right foot, move the left foot in a stamping motion to left sparring stance to D with left knife-hand side strike;
    40. Shift toward C in left sparring stance to D with left forearm guarding block;
    41. Move the right foot back clockwise as pivot right on the left foot to left cat stance to C with a left waist block (reverse hammerfist upward);
    42. Move the left foot to C slightly, pivot right on left foot, move the right foot in a stamping motion to right sparring stance to D with right knife-hand side strike;
    43. Move the right foot around counter-clockwise to C as pivot left on the left foot to left sparring stance to D with left forearm guarding block;
    44. Right jump back kick to D (far forward), land to right sparring stance to D with right knife-hand guarding block;
    45. Left jump back kick to D (far forward), land to left sparring stance to D with left knife-hand guarding block;
    46. Slip right foot laterally backwards toward C to left walking stance to D with right ridge-hand inward low block bringing the left fist to in front of the right shoulder;
    47. Withdraw the left foot and slide toward C to right sparring stance with left elbow thrust backwards to C;
    48. Slip left foot laterally backwards to right walking stance to D with left ridge-hand inward low block bringing the right fist to in front of the left shoulder;
    49. Withdraw the right foot and slide toward C to left sparring stance to D with right elbow thrust backwards to C; continue immediately ...
    50. Slip the right foot laterally back to left walking stance to D with right middle punch to D (Ki-hap!);
    End. Bring the right foot forward to ready stance.
